When you think of Falcon and memberships, you probably think of getting access to a treasure trove of hot, sexy adult action. Now you should also think about access to a treasure trove of LGBTQ history.
Ben Rush, Co-Chief Content Officer & Chief Creative Marketing Officer, filmmaker, and screenwriter, is coming to Stonewall Museum Nov. 11.
“When I found out government funding had been withdrawn, I thought, what could Falcon Naked Sword do to help keep the museum going and preserving LGBTQ culture.”
Indeed, Stonewall Museum in Fort Lauderdale is struggling financially while also trying to find a new home that will better house the archive and educate the public.
Some may think of them as unlikely bedfellows, but they shouldn’t. The growth of gay porn and the LGBTQ movement have come simultaneously over the past fifty years; the Stonewall Riots in 1969 coincided with the old adult movie theaters in seedy areas of town. Home video evolved with VHS VCRs in the 1980s along with the rise of the gym bod, muscled out stars of gay porn. That aesthetic was associated with good health as the AIDS epidemic left its victims gaunt.
With the purchase of a museum membership as admission, Rush will tell the Stonewall audience everything and anything they want to know. For example, does he cast for physical looks alone or also for acting ability?
“Over time, I learn who can handle scripted material,” Rush said. “Sometimes, if I think somebody has ‘something,’ I’ll put them in a smaller role or in an all sex movie so I can learn their sensibility, their sense of humor, understand how they speak.”
While many studios produce “run and gun” movies, Rush’s films are scripted with plots, drama, and comedy. His stars know they need to come ready to work.
His Nov. 11 appearance at Stonewall coincides with the release of his new movie, Deeper By the Dozen, with an innovative prop. A padded Lazy Susan helps the bottom spin from one top to another while also being more comfortable than lying on a sharp-edged counter.
