Champagne flowed on the tables while drag queens death-dropped to the floor. Just past the door, waves crashed onto the beach. The new drag brunch at Señor Frogs on Fort Lauderdale Beach is bringing the Sunday Funday we didn’t know we needed.
During its debut on a chilly February morning, a packed house poured mimosas and brought out fistfuls of ones to tip the performers. The event features a rotating cast of South Florida queens including TP Lords, Kat Wilderness, Brittish Jay Foxx and more.
The franchise is known for its party atmosphere, popping up in places known for cruise ports and spring break vibes. The queens pulled birthday boys and girls up on stage with a celebratory drink, fog shot out from above the stage, and the crowd cheered. Indeed, it felt like Spring Break: LGBTQ Edition.
Despite having been open for three years, many people were Frogs virgins.
Ed Huckfeldt is one of the organizers of the brunch. “I moved down about two and a half years ago and was talking with [another Señor Frogs leader] and asked why we weren’t doing drag brunch down here,” he said. They worked together, recruited local performers, and planned the event.
In addition to luring locals, it also works for travelers who just got off a ship and are waiting for afternoon flights and people headed to the port for a late afternoon departure.
Doors are at 10 a.m. and the show starts about 11 a.m. Huckfeldt said they hope to add a second Sunday show and, eventually, a Saturday brunch. Tickets start at $50 and include unlimited mimosas and an entree.
