November is all about giving thanks and being with family, or your “chosen family.” So, what’s going on at our Palm Beach County bars?
Well for starters there’s a new bar in Palm Beach County! The Purple Lizard in Lake Park recently opened – making it the furthest north LGBTQ venue in the county. Make you stop by and show them some love. They’re open Wednesday through Saturday with a Happy Hour from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. They also serve food.
H.G. Roosters just recently started to feature sexy male dancers from LeBoy, which is in Fort Lauderdale. They serve $3 well drinks and domestic drafts. Come thirsty and ready to party when the guys hit the stage at 9:30 p.m. Monday nights are no longer uneventful in Palm Beach thanks to trivia night, which starts at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile at the Mad Hatter Lounge in Lake Worth Beach their weekly events include a Sing-Along Party on Saturday nights at 9 p.m.; Leather Night on Sundays at 8 p.m. and every day a Happy Hour from noon to 7 p.m. The bar includes a pool and darts as well.
Every year we celebrate our trans brother and sisters that have passed on with the Trans Day of Remembrance, but Transpire Help has decided to blend it with a runway as they kick off Fashion on the Block on Nov. 22 at Lucky’s in downtown West Palm Beach.
Members of Transpire are no strangers to fundraising and advocacy work. They have several supporters and allies that make their organization shine. One admirer is how Fashion on the Block got its start.
“We had two clients at the time that were best friends, one of the girls was an artist that created some impressive drip art. She literally used to take painting off our walls and create beautiful art pieces. She moved to Georgia and was killed,” said Donna Weinberger, president of Transpire. “Her other friend happened to be a talented fashion designer came up with an idea to create a line of gowns along with using drip art to honor her friend that passed away.”
Make sure you look for tickets as they’re still available for this weekend’s event.
Here is a non-bar event happening on Dec. 1 to commemorate World AIDS Day. Compass Community Center in Lake Worth Beach will host their annual remembrance ceremony featuring a candlelight vigil, AIDS quilt induction, and guest speakers.
There’s plenty to do in Palm Beach County. Make sure you get out there and enjoy it all.
