Why choose between substance and style when you can have both? The two collide once again at the annual Galleria Fort Lauderdale’s BBX Capital Men of Style.
The event features 12 very stylish men from South Florida stylin’ and profilin’, each for a personal cause. One of this year’s contestants is Alfredo Olvera, a state committeeman for Broward County Democrats and former president of the Dolphin Dems.
He will be representing The Pride Center.
“The Pride Center does so much for the LGBTQ+ community in Broward County, and this year we are celebrating 30 years of service,” he said. “We provide a welcoming, safe space, an inclusive home to everyone in the LGBTQ+ community and our allies. Our dedication creates a positive impact in the lives of the people we serve. So for me, it is such an honor to have been selected to represent The Pride Center at this event.”
Presented by Signature Grand and CAN Community Health, the event raises lots of money for community events. Last year they set the record of $310,000 for 12 organizations.
Olvera, who is the Director of the Board at Pride Center as well as a realtor, is always perfectly dressed for every occasion. Whether it’s shorts and a cool shirt for a day of voter registration or a formal gala, his style is always on point.
“When it comes to catching my eye in the world of fashion, it's all about a combination of quality and uniqueness. Clothes and accessories need to tell a story, evoke emotion, and make a statement. I look for pieces that are not just trendy, but also timeless, but most importantly, they need to fit my personality and allow me to express my style.”
All 12 men will have a stylist, and Olvera says he won’t know what he’s wearing until a day or two before the event.
“All the participants have a unique opportunity to fundraise for the organization they represent. I am standing out by reaching out to all my friends and supporters of The Pride Center to ask them to participate by either buying a ticket to attend the event or a ticket to vote. Ultimately, the organization, and their Man of Style that fundraises the most will be the winner.”
The event is Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. at the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $150 and include valet parking and are available through the participating charities and online at www.galleriamall-fl.com/events/men-of-style-2023. Online voting is $25 per vote. The Man of Style and his respected charity that sells the most tickets and secures the most online votes will be recognized during the event with an additional $1,000 contribution.
