Summer may still be sizzling, but the spooky season is already creeping onto our bookshelves.

Three deliciously dark YA thrillers are arriving this fall with toxic friendships, bloody surprises and parties where murder was definitely not supposed to be on the guest list. Whether you prefer your scares candy-coated, packed with high-school drama or wrapped inside a tense whodunit, these new releases are ready to push your fall TBR, and possibly your nerves, to the limit.

Jessica Lacy’s Tastes Like Candy 2: Viciously Sweet, arriving Sept. 22, serves up another campy, chaotic slasher for readers who like their horror colorful, clever and unapologetically gory. Described as Heathers meets Fear Street, this sequel promises plenty of attitude alongside its bloodshed. Even bestselling horror author Stephen Graham Jones warns that the story does not hold back on the gore. Sweet treats, sharp humor and slasher thrills? Consider us tempted.

Friendship breakups can be brutal, but in Roselyn Clarke’s I’ve Got Plans for You, arriving Oct. 6, the drama becomes truly dangerous, especially when someone does not have an alibi. Perfect for fans of Alexa Donne and Jessica Goodman, this tale of toxic friendship takes familiar teenage tensions and twists them into a mystery filled with suspicion, secrets and the kind of betrayal that could prove deadly.

Then on Oct. 13, Edgar Award nominated author Cindy R. X. He invites readers to The Murder Party. This tense whodunit is made for fans of The Mary Shelley Club and anyone delighted by stories in which game night goes terribly, and perhaps, fatally wrong. A gathering meant to be entertaining quickly becomes a mystery where every guest could be hiding something and surviving the night may be the ultimate challenge.

Go ahead and add all three to your fall TBR. Just remember friendships can turn vicious, parties can become crime scenes, and something sweet may still have a deadly bite. Happy reading!
