Fall is here, and apparently so is the perfect excuse to fill our shelves with a little more magic, romance and danger. This week’s picks bring fae, fierce heroines, complicated love stories and, yes, plenty of yearning.

Shadow and Son by Gretchen Powell Fox

The Shattered Crown trilogy comes to an end Oct. 20, and it sounds like Fox is making sure readers feel every moment of it. Elyria Lightbreaker and Cedric Thorne are fighting to find their way back to themselves, each other and perhaps even a world worth saving. 

I especially love the twist on the usual romantasy roles: Elyria is the immortal fae powerhouse, while Cedric is the human knight who just might need some saving. Add romance, danger and a gorgeous special edition, and this finale belongs on the fall TBR.

Of Blades and Wings by Eliza Raine

Valkyries, fae and a fallen warrior? You already have my attention. Arriving Nov. 3, the first book in Raine’s Flame Cursed Fae trilogy follows a princess with hidden abilities who must train to become a Valkyrie without allowing a very tempting warrior to pull her away from her duty. 

There’s slow-burn romance here, but also sisterhood, mythology and a heroine learning that being different doesn’t mean there is anything about her that needs to be fixed.

Between Tides & Thunder by Leena Kazak

And then there’s one for those of us who sometimes want all the romantasy goodness without committing to another entire series. 

Coming Jan. 5, this standalone throws together a princess, a ruthless enemy general and an arranged marriage, which, naturally, sounds like an excellent recipe for trouble. Expect enemies-to-lovers tension, elemental magic, forced proximity, twists and plenty of chemistry.

Three very different fantasy worlds, three gorgeous additions to the bookshelf and more than enough romance and magic to carry us straight into the new year.
