OutSFL and its student publication, OutFAU, have been named finalists in four categories in the 2026 Sunshine State Awards, Florida's largest and oldest journalism contest.
Presented annually by the Society of Professional Journalists Florida Pro Chapter, the Sunshine State Awards recognize the best journalism produced across Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
OutSFL Publisher Jason Parsley was named a finalist in Beat Reporting – Community for his coverage of three major stories: Fegenbush, Queer Centers & Attack on Run Club.
OutFAU, the LGBTQ student publication at Florida Atlantic University, earned finalist honors in three additional categories:
LGBTQ+ Coverage — "We Stand United": Individuals Share How Anti-Trans Legislation Affect Them* by Gabriela Quintero
Serious Feature — 10 Questions by Mary Rasura
Arts & Entertainment Review — Lady Gaga (Staff)
"We're honored to once again be recognized alongside some of the best journalism being produced across Florida," Parsley said.
The recognition continues a strong tradition for both publications. In recent years, OutSFL and OutFAU have earned multiple Sunshine State Awards.
The winners will be announced during the 2026 Sunshine State Awards ceremony on Aug. 29 at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale.
