To celebrate Pride Month, OutSFL Entertainment Reporter Gregg Shapiro and veteran entertainment journalist John Hayden have picked their favorite LGBTQ movies.
John Hayden: This week’s movie is, technically, everyone’s favorite, because it’s “The Favourite.” Starring Olivia Coleman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz, this movie explores more than palace intrigue. It tackles power dynamics, class, and who can get away with being naughty and who can’t.
The writing is spectacular and there is so much physical comedy that this movie is a joy to watch the first time. It’s only in a second viewing that you can pick up on much of the nuance that takes this film from great to extraordinary.
Gregg Shapiro: It seems like Olivia Coleman just came out of nowhere. She’s also in Heartstopper as the mom. Everything she’s in is just incredible. Who doesn’t love a period piece with Queens? Oh lord!
JH: Did I mention that Olivia Coleman is in this, and I love her? If you ever have a chance to grab a pint with her, I highly recommend!
