Last night was one of those rare, glowing moments where everything just felt right.
From the people to the movie to the message it carried. My husband Sebastian and I joined our close friends Marissa, her daughter Natalie (who is like a niece to me), Brooke, Marian, and Sharma for a private screening of Elio at the Dania Pointe Regal Theater, and the evening was nothing short of magical and fun.
From the moment we arrived, excitement bubbled in the air. We each received our wristbands and headed inside, grabbing a drink and a favorite snack or two. As we made our way to our reserved press seats, we couldn't help but feel thankful for the opportunity to see this film early.
All of us are fans of Disney and Disney movies and were eager to see what the movie has to offer theater goers once it releases this Friday, June 20th on the big screen.
Before the lights dimmed, we had a blast posing for photos in front of the movie’s vibrant backdrop, a moment that felt celebratory and full of energy, and got us even more ready and excited to see the film.
We all just have fun together and taking lots of photos is part of it. And this is maybe even my fault in a way, because I’m the one always eager to capture moments with my friends and family.
Elio tells the story of a young boy who accidentally becomes Earth's ambassador to the Communiverse, a quirky and cosmic council of alien life. What unfolds is a heartfelt tale of identity, acceptance, and the courage it takes to embrace your uniqueness. Elio's journey through space mirrors the internal journey many of us take here on Earth, one that is to find our voice, our place, and our people.
For our group, made up of teachers, writers, moms, and creatives who have all, in one way or another, danced to our own beat, this film struck a personal chord. We saw pieces of ourselves in Elio’s wonder, his fears and his resilience.
There wasn’t a single dry eye in our group by the end of the film, each of us touched by its emotional depth, its message of love, loss, and the beauty of becoming who you are.
We all left the theater not only moved, but eager to tell others that Elio is a must-see film. It’s a film that reminds you of the power of belonging, the magic of imagination, and the strength it takes to just be yourself.
It’s a definite a gem, and Disney truly captured moments of humor, as well as more serious themes in a perfect way. This group of misfits was happy as we left the theater and I hope that those who love cinema, and Disney films, will give this heartwarming one a chance.
