Being stuck in a job that isn’t paying the bills –– or with no job at all –– can feel hard to escape in South Florida.
As of November 2025, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area had a 4.1% unemployment rate, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s ranked 28th out of the 56 metropolitan areas with more than 1 million residents.
But securing a job doesn’t have to come with major life sacrifices. Multiple job groups in South Florida are working to give residents the skills, training and certifications needed to sustain employment.
Whether you're fresh out of college looking for a job or a developmentally disabled adult trying to find the right career path, there’s someone out there waiting to support you in your journey.
Here are 10 organizations and non-profits to check out:
United Way Miami connects you with the programs and training you’ll need to set you on the right career path.
You can get involved in divisions like healthcare, construction, aviation and technology. United Way will connect you with one of its partners in each field to start or continue your professional journey.

Or, if construction is more your speed, you can work with the Moss School of Construction at FIU to get involved in an HVAC or electrical apprenticeship.
United Way has supported over 6,600 people who were unemployed or underemployed in participating in job training or placement programs, and there’s always room for more.
