Pridelines, Miami’s only LGBTQ+ community center, is proud to announce the success of its 2024 Annual Masquerade Gala, held on Aug. 17 at the Coral Gables Golf and Country Club. The event brought together over 300 attendees and raised more than $100,000 to support Pridelines' vital programs and services.
The evening was hosted by the charismatic FayWhat?!, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of glitz, glamour, and community. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava graced the event with a warm welcome, presenting a proclamation to Pridelines Executive Director, Dr. Edward Summers, in recognition of the organization’s continued impact on the community.
One of the most heartfelt moments of the night was when Aaliyah King, one of Pridelines' youth members, took the stage to share her personal experiences. She spoke of finding a place of community, love, and authenticity at Pridelines, leaving many attendees inspired by her words.
In a show of national support, Vice President Kamala Harris sent a heartfelt letter celebrating Pridelines' tireless dedication and impactful service to the LGBTQIA+ community, acknowledging our organization's significant role in fostering inclusivity and support.
In a highlight of the evening, Pridelines honored several organizations and individuals for their exceptional contributions to the LGBTQ+ community:
- Community Champions: The Miami Foundation and The Our Fund Foundation, recognized for their outstanding efforts in advancing LGBTQ+ causes.
- Youth Vanguard Award: Miami Girls Rock Camp, celebrated for empowering and uplifting LGBTQ+ youth.
- Community Unsung Hero: Michael Roman, acknowledged for his unwavering dedication and service to the community.
- Distinguished Service: Veronica Barrios-Garcia, commended for her tremendous support, dedication, and hard work toward advancing Pridelines mission.
The Gala also featured a series of dazzling performances, including drag acts, live bands, and a special dance performance, which captivated the audience and created a joyful and celebratory atmosphere. Attendees were treated to truly unforgettable performances by Vanessa Monroe from the House of Extravaganza, Lucky Starzz, and Ariesela who dazzled the audience, bringing their unique artistry and spirit to the event. Musical performances were another highlight, with disco renditions by We Are Wet Socks, a youth group, and Pridelines' resident band, Alana and Ted, filling the room with energy and joy.
The evening took an unexpected turn when an inappropriate joke about Pridelines' alumnus and one of the organization’s biggest supporters, Tiffany Fantasia was made. Pridelines, Executive Director immediately denounced the joke and rescinds any honor bestowed upon the guest that made the joke. “We love and always hold in high regard and honor Tiffany Fantasia. She was a former Pridelines youth and is a big supporter of our organization. Tiffany is Pridelines. She is our ICON,” said Summers. Despite this incident, the Gala remained a joyous event where the community united in celebration, laughter, and learning about Pridelines' significant work over the past year.
Veronica Barrios-Garcia, Pridelines Board Chair commented, “This Gala is a testament to the strength and resilience of our community. We stand firm in our commitment to serving and supporting Miami’s LGBTQ+ community, and tonight’s success will help us continue to make a difference.”
The funds raised will go directly towards expanding Pridelines' services, including mental health support, HIV prevention, youth programming, homeless support, and more.
