Michael Albetta is a community hero who has been fighting for our political warriors who are on the front line advocating for our LGBTQ rights for decades.
Albetta is the past president for the Florida LGBTQ+ Democratic caucus and current share Amadeus. Albetta is the former president of the Dolphin Democrats of Broward County from 2003 until 2005 and again from 2009 to 2010. For the past 20 years, Albetta has been organizing in Broward, the get out the vote headquarters. This year the location was at the legendary Tropics Bar and Grill in Wilton Manors.
Last Sunday, Tropics owner Khan Bashir was gifted and award in celebration of his commitment to our community for providing his wonderful location as the 2024 get out the vote headquarters. The award was provided by Albetta.
After the awards celebration, Democratic Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell spoke to a very excited and supportive audience.
It was so fantastic to see one of our legendary businesses on Wilton Drive host such a fantastic event and award a time-tested business owner in Bashir who has been supporting our community for decades. It was an honor for me to say a few words about the legacy of the late Robert DeBenedictis and all that DeBenedictis and Bashir collectively did for over four decades together to support LGBTQ businesses and entrepreneurs with a dream. Never underestimate the thousands of jobs over the years that these great men have provided to our community members.
Albetta has tirelessly fought for diversity and inclusion at the highest level. He has supported, endorsed and given his life to ensuring that the holdbacks and setbacks of the past are just that. The past. Because of Albetta’s work for decades, he has built a foundation in South Florida that ensures that our future generation of LGBTQ community members will have an environment of equal opportunity and a community to call home. He understands that we are always just one election cycle away from going backwards. Hence, why he continues to fight harder than ever to ensure that we go forward. Albetta’s passion to ensure that we get every vote possible in every election is critical to making sure the correct people are representing our interest. I cannot think of anyone other than Albetta who has fought harder with blood sweat, and yes, tears for our community. Not only a hero to our community, but a hero to me. We are all on Albetta’s shoulders to do our best to pay his efforts forward by ensuring we do everything that we can within our circle of influence to support his efforts.
