Thinking Cap Theatre’s funny and poignant new play, “All the Natalie Portmans” by C.A. Johnson, runs through March 30 at Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center. This coming-of-age story centers on Keyonna, a young queer woman who summons her muse Natalie to imagine into existence the life that she desires. Go to thinkingcaptheatre.org.

"The Devil Wears Payless” is making its South Florida premiere at Empire Stage. The seventh play by playwright Jamie Morris runs through April 6. It parodies the well-known film about the ultimate boss from hell. For more information, go to empirestage.com.

Slow Burn Theatre delivers “Something Rotten!” opening on March 29 and running through April 13 in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center. Nominated for 10 Tony Awards, this hilarious smash is set in 1595 as brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom compete to write the world’s first musical to compete with the popularity of superstar Shakespeare. Speaking of Shakespeare, Hamlet gets a bold, hilarious, and deeply moving reinvention as “Fat Ham” swaps the Danish castle for a Southern backyard cookout, where Juicy, a Black queer young man, is grappling with his identity, family expectations, and the sudden appearance of his father’s ghost demanding revenge. As tensions sizzle and generations collide, Juicy must decide whether to break the cycle of violence or embrace his path. The collab between Island City, Brevo Theatre, and Gable Stage opens on April 3 at Island City Stage.

Lesbian Thespians was featured on PBS Art Loft. Its new production, “Dolores Street” by Theresa Carilli, runs March 29-April13 at The Center for Spiritual Living. It is about four roommates, one highly interesting personal ad, and a lot about living as a lesbian in San Francisco. It digs deep into the lives of these four women as they navigate love, relationships, roommatehood, and everything in between!

FOUL-MOUTHED DIVAS WE LOVE

Amy Armstrong, one of the LGBTQ community’s favorite performers is coming to Fort Lauderdale for one show only at Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts on March 22. Armstrong got her start at the legendary Gentry of Chicago and quickly rose to the top of the cabaret circuit by creating her unique blend of song and quick humor. She came to be known as the diva with the voice of an angel and the mouth of a sailor.

Then, on March 28, the multi-faceted comedian, actor, and jazz musician Lea DeLaria takes to the stage at Sunshine. She holds the distinction of being the first openly gay comic on television in America and earned a place in our hearts from her three-time SAG Award-winning role as Carrie “Big Boo” Black in the hit Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” The acclaimed jazz vocalist, Broadway star, and Emmy winner takes aim at WTF is happening in the world today, bringing her Sicilian rage, sharp tongue, and musical prowess to the stage.
