That’s true with human songbirds as well. It seems the colder the weather gets up north, the more talent we see gracing the stages of South Florida. Here’s just a sampling of some of the incredible talent we’ll have in our backyard.

One of the greatest voices of our times, Linda Eder, takes the stage at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center on Friday, Jan. 17. Eder, renowned for her powerful vocals and Broadway performances will deliver an unforgettable evening of music. Her diverse repertoire spans Broadway, standards, pop, country, and jazz. She was one of the first stars to come out of reality television when she was a hit on Star Search in the late 1980s, leading to a recording career, a starring role on Broadway in “Jekyll & Hyde,” which earned her a Drama Desk nomination, and solidified her status as one of America’s most beloved singers and dynamic live performers. For more information, go to aventuracenter.org.

The Aventura Center also welcomes Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp, the original stars of “Rent” and longtime friends, on Sunday, Jan. 19. The duo is performing their new show while celebrating 30 years of friendship in an unforgettable and celebratory night of music, stories, and fun. They will deliver songs from “Rent” and projects throughout their careers and music that have influenced their lives. Since their time as members of the original cast, Pascal and Rapp have remained close friends while each has gone on to do additional work on Broadway, film, and TV.

Pascal has appeared in leading roles in the Broadway hits “Aida,” “Memphis,” “Something Rotten!,” and “Disaster!” Rapp recently completed an acclaimed Off-Broadway run of his original show “Without You” and is known for starring in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” and “If/Then.” Buy tickets online at aventuracenter.org.

Tony Award-nominated Broadway actress, singer, and author, Melissa Errico has toured the world with her inimitable thematic concerts. A specialist in the seemingly very different music of Stephen Sondheim and Michel Legrand, she was first known for starring roles on Broadway, including “My Fair Lady,” “High Society,” “Anna Karenina,” “White Christmas,” “Dracula,” and “Les Misérables.” She brings her incomparable talents to 54 Below at The Rinker at The Kravis Center on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18. For tickets go to Kravis.org.

Melissa Etheridge stormed onto the American rock scene in 1988 with the release of her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, which led to an appearance on the 1989 Grammy Awards show. For several years, her popularity grew around such memorable originals as “Bring Me Some Water,” “No Souvenirs” and “Ain’t It Heavy,” for which she won a Grammy in 1992. Etheridge hit her commercial and artistic stride with her fourth album, Yes I Am in 1993. The collection featured the massive hits, “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window,” a searing song of longing that brought Etheridge her second Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Performance. In 1995, Etheridge issued her highest-charting album, Your Little Secret, which was distinguished by the hit single, “I Want to Come Over.”

Her astounding success that year led to Etheridge receiving the Songwriter of the Year honor at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996. She will be the first rock concert in the newly renovated War Memorial Building in Holiday Park on Jan. 21. For tickets go to melissaetheridge.com/events/.

With a voice like an angel and a mouth like a sailor, an evening with Amy Armstrong is not just a concert, it is an experience. She is naturally funny and has the audience howling, until she sings when she can make their hearts soar or bring a tear to their eye, all in the blink of an eye. Experience it for yourself when she comes to Sunshine Cathedral for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 22. Now based in Puerto Vallarta, she has been an LGBTQ ally who has dedicated almost 40 years of her life to entertaining. Go to sunshinecathedral.org for tickets and more information.
