Walt Disney World is no stranger to evolution, and the recent transformation at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground proves that even rustic getaways can get a magical upgrade.

Thanks to the debut of The Cabins at Fort Wilderness, along with enhanced dining experiences and newly unveiled Disney Vacation Club (DVC) perks, this resort has become one of the most talked-about stays in Central Florida.

From the moment we checked in during a recent media experience and visit, we could tell something special was in store. And I was so excited to share all of this with readers who might want to visit and know more about the resort and DVC offerings. With scenic wooded trails, revamped accommodations, and heartfelt Disney hospitality, our stay was more than a vacation, it was an experience of comfort, nature, and friend-centered magic.

A Warm Welcome to Wilderness Comfort

The newly launched DVC cabins, which opened to guests in July 2024, are nestled within 750 acres of pine and cypress trees. These aren’t your traditional campsites. Instead, they blend the charm of outdoor living with the comforts of home, featuring full kitchens, modern bathrooms with walk-in showers, bunk beds for the kids, and large picture windows overlooking peaceful forest views. There’s even space for furry friends, as the cabins are pet friendly.

Each unit is themed with charming nods to Chip and Dale, designed with sleek wood tones and nautical touches. Whether it was sipping coffee on our private patio or curling up with a good book after a day full of adventures, every moment felt personal and serene, and it’s a place where you can rest after a long day.

From Hoop-Dee-Doo to Marshmallow Moments: Dining & Activities Galore

Dining at Fort Wilderness is as fun as it is filling. We had a chance to visit the legendary Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, where we were treated to unlimited fried chicken, ribs, cornbread, and laughter, as well as our beverage of choice. This lively dinner show at Pioneer Hall has been drawing applause for decades, and it’s easy to see why, every bite and banjo note hit just right and the performers are entertaining, engaging and put the audience right in the middle of the show, and at times, make them participate in their presentation.

Beyond the main showstopper, Fort Wilderness offers casual spots like Trail’s End, grab-and-go options at P&J’s Southern Takeout, and chances to cook up your own fireside s’mores during nightly campfire programs with Chip and Dale. And yes, those s’mores kits could be provided with extra chocolate, and that’s completely ok with us! And, generous.

Those who visit can expect days were filled with activities: from horseback riding and archery lessons to kayaking on Bay Lake and taking golf cart rides through trails dotted with twinkling lights.

At night, the resort also offers outdoor movie screenings under the stars, including blankets, popcorn, and all that you might need to enjoy the relaxed experience.

Inside the DVC Experience: Welcome Home

One of the standout highlights of our visit was the elevated DVC experience and the newly opened Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Center, located near Pioneer Hall, adds a layer of VIP hospitality to the wilderness.

Designed for both current members and those curious about joining, the center offers a cozy lounge, refreshments, planning resources, and even a tour of a model cabin.

From early check-ins to personalized recommendations and even surprise welcome goodies in our room, those who visit will feel seen and spoiled.

During our media visit and experience, the DVC team treated us like extended family, guiding us through member perks that make future stays even more magical, and we urge those of you who might be interested to research DVC and see if it’s a right fit.

Expanding Magic: New DVC Perks and Magic Kingdom Lounge

In addition to the Fort Wilderness offerings, DVC continues to expand across Walt Disney World.

Most recently, a brand-new DVC lounge at Magic Kingdom opened, giving members a quiet, air-conditioned place to relax, recharge, and enjoy complimentary snacks and soft drinks. This hidden gem is now a go-to spot during long park days.

In general, Disney Vacation Club members now enjoy a wide range of exclusive benefits that enhance every visit, including priority access to high-demand dining reservations and special events, early entry to select park experiences, and access to private member lounges across Walt Disney World.

Additional perks include behind-the-scenes tours and curated vacation packages, all designed to deliver a more personalized and premium Disney experience for those who want a little something extra during their visit.

The cabins at Fort Wilderness are the latest example of how DVC is redefining what it means to vacation at Disney, not just a place to stay, but a place to feel like you belong.

Final Takeaway: Nature Meets Magic, With Disney’s Signature Touch

Whether you're toasting marshmallows at sunset, laughing at dinner theater antics, or waking up to the sound of birds outside your peaceful cabin window, Fort Wilderness has become the perfect blend of rustic escape and luxury comfort.

With DVC’s newest updates and offerings, this is more than just a resort, it’s a home base for creating lasting memories.

For those seeking a Disney getaway that’s a little slower paced yet rich with experiences, Fort Wilderness is ready to welcome you home, with fresh air, warm service, and just the right sprinkle of pixie dust.

It’s the type of place where those who wish to seek adventures and those who want to brave the wilderness and stay somewhere different and fun can find themselves at home.
