As a performer, Anne Steele has performed everywhere from the high seas across the globe to Provincetown to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Now, this global vocal force of nature is hitting the Sunshine Cathedral on Feb. 1 and delivering a dose of The Great White Way to South Florida. I caught up with Steele to chat about bringing her show to South Florida, how Broadway classics have informed her life and career, and the one show that has been “pivotal” in her own life.

Youre returning to Sunshine Cathedral on Feb. 1. What can the crowd expect this visit?

This year I am very excited to return with my new show, “Broadway Goes to the Movies.” This show is all about songs that either started on Broadway and then became a film or the other way around. I grew up in a small town in Indiana and the only access I had to theater was through cast recordings or movies. That what inspired me to create this show. I know lots of people are just like me and will be able to connect to this show so much. I am also bringing back my Musical Director William TN Hall and along with a bass player and drummer from the area, so it will be a super fun night filled with songs you know and love!

Broadway Goes To The Movies” truly showcases some of the best anthems Broadway has had. What show simply is the show you love to sing tracks from over and over?

I have always been obsessed with Les Misérables. It came out in the ‘80s and I remember wearing out my double cassette tape of that show and singing along to every single song. You know there will be a song in my show to represent that very pivotal show in my life.

South Florida audiences consistently love having a taste of Broadway come this way. Will they be getting their fill of Broadway divas and familiar anthems?

I absolutely love the South Florida audiences. I love how informed they are about theater and Broadway and how enthusiastic they always are at my shows! This is the first time I am bringing an all Broadway show and have included many singalong opportunities and maybe a little choreography participation moment. I also have a lot of BIG belting diva moments so I know they will not be disappointed!

Any recent shows on the Great White Way that you have seen that you would highly recommend?

I am so obsessed with “Death Becomes Her.” It is filled with incredible star moments and you will make you laugh so much. I also recently saw Gypsy and Audra McDonald is truly brilliant. Lastly, I was so impressed by Sunset Boulevard. I just loved the new take on what we have all come to expect from that show and the leads were truly next level.

I Miss Those Daysremains one of my favorite songs in recent memories. Any chance we are going to hear more brand-new material from you soon?

Thank you so much for saying that. I am very proud of that song as it really does represent my truth and so many years of my life. As far as new music, I have written a few new songs that have yet to be released so that’s a start. I made a New Year’s resolution to start writing again and to finish my next EP. So that is certainly in the works. Stay tuned!

Your podcast with your wife Kelli Carpenter I Love My Wife is back! What is it about podcasting that you love so much?

I used to love that we always had the most incredible guests on our show. We had the coolest conversations with people from entertainment to authors to chefs to activists to entrepreneurs to so many more fields. We took an almost two-year break and finally decided we missed it. What we discovered we missed was connecting with our audience. We also really loved laughing and talking to each other on the air. So we did a reboot and re-imagined what we wanted the show to be now. We now talk about our lives and our travels. We don’t have guests anymore; it’s just us! When we travel, which is about three weeks out of every month, we take the podcast with us. We have podcast from Morocco, Amsterdam, London and there will be be a lot more in 2025.

Our country is most likely about to enter a very challenging four years. What are your tactics to get through the next four years in America?

Challenging is an understatement unfortunately. Kelli and I have talked about this a lot. We have to support causes that are going to help fight for our rights as LGBTQ people in this country. We need to speak out and stand up for ourselves and others in our community, especially the trans community. We need to rise up and vote in every election because every election counts, even your local ones. We need to spend time with our friends and check in on each other because this is going to be hard and often times overwhelming, so we are going to need each other more now than ever.

You have accomplished so much and had a storied career. What would you tell that little girl from Indiana with big dreams?

Sometimes you will feel like you aren’t enough. You will doubt yourself and sometimes want to give up. You won’t always get everything you want. But you are talented enough and strong enough to create your own path and build a career you can be proud of. So never stop believing and fighting for what you want. Someday you will be proud of the struggle because you made your own way.
