Adam Sank, Sharon Gless & More to Perform in November

The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida will hold the Chic & Unique Ball, A Red-Carpet Extravaganza, on Saturday, Nov. 4, at The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort with Joe Posa as Joan Rivers conducting interviews. Enjoy fine food and cocktails, bid on silent auction items, and buy raffle tickets. The event benefits GMCSF's operations, concert programming, outreach, and scholarships. 

Adam Sank’s Bad Dates, at The Foundry Nov. 5-15, tells the story of a gay New Yorker looking for love in the Big Apple, with disastrous results. This fast-paced comedy chronicles every bad date Adam Sank has ever been on, and he has been on a lot! It’s graphic, raunchy, shocking, and hilarious.

The South Florida Pride Concert Band kicks off its 2023-24 season with an exciting performance entitled "And the Award Goes To...," a red-carpet-inspired concert featuring songs by Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award-winning actors, singers, and composers from film, stage, and concert halls, at The Broward Center for Performing Arts on Sunday, Nov. 5. Tickets are $35 and are available at browardcenter.org.

Lesbian icon alert! Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress and producer, Sharon Gless (“Cagney & Lacey,” “Queer as Folk,” “Burn Notice”) will be attending the screening of her documentary, “Show Her the Money,” at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. at Savor Cinema.

Pride Corner Art & Frame will present "The Art of Drag,” on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 6-9 p.m., a celebration of the rich history, beauty, and rights of drag queen entertainers through diverse artistic expressions. Curated by Tedd Davis & Scot Jeffries, with artworks by more than 30 artists showcasing various media, each piece serves as a vibrant tribute to the indomitable spirit of drag culture, capturing the essence of its vivacity and significance. The opening night promises an unforgettable experience, featuring not only the visual feast of art but also live performances. Ten percent of the proceeds from art sales will be dedicated to supporting the charitable endeavors of the Imperial Sun Court of all Florida.

The 40th Miami Book Fair, taking place Nov. 12-19, will feature many LGBTQ authors such as Andrew Holleran (Dancer From the Dance, The Kingdom of Sand), Curtis Chin (Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant), Elyssa Goodman (Glitter and Concrete: A Cultural History of Drag in New York City), Justin Torres (Blackouts), and Salar Abdoh, (A Nearby Country Called Love), Bushra Rehman (Roses, In the Mouth of a Lion), Chen Chen (Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency), James Frankie Thomas (Idlewild), Justin Torres (Blackouts), Kyle Dillon Hertz (The Lookback Window), Rajiv Mohabir (Whale Aria), Salar Abdoh (A Nearby Country Called Love), and Shastri Akella (The Sea Elephants). 

Additionally, LGBTQ allies such as New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast (I Must Be Dreaming) and Rebecca Makkai (The Great Believers, I Have Some Questions for You) will be presenting their new works. Also featured is a tribute is also being planned for noted lesbian poet Maureen Seaton who passed away earlier this year.

Taste of the Island returns to Richardson Park on Monday, Nov. 13, from 6-9 p.m. The event features dozens of local food and beverage establishments spotlighting their culinary and beverage specialties. Park free at the City Hall/Hagen Park lot at 2020 Wilton Drive and use the free shuttle or walk the short distance to the event venue. Pre-sale admission tickets ($60/$100 VIP) may be purchased at tasteoftheisland.org. Last year's event sold out in advance and no tickets were available at the gate. A list of participating restaurants is available on the website.
