After 2023 played out like a version of How DeSantis Stole Christmas, queens are returning to rule the holiday roost. "A Drag Queen Christmas" is back after taking a year off during the height of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ unconstitutional attacks on drag entertainment.

The show will celebrate its 10th anniversary tour in Florida the week after Christmas, including a show at The Fillmore in Miami Beach on Dec. 29. Despite being family friendly, all shows are 18 or older.

In spring of 2023, DeSantis and his Republican supermajority in Tallahassee passed a law that, while not mentioning the word “drag” specifically, it was heavily implied. Many Prides were canceled. One had a black curtain or tarp wrapped around the fence to “protect the children,” even though nothing untoward was taking place.

After the administration tried to revoke liquor licenses of venues that hosted drag shows, A Drag Queen Christmas didn’t book any Florida dates that year. It’s still unclear if producers couldn’t find a venue willing to host them, or if they decided it wasn’t worth the trouble.

Now they’re on the schedule for 2024, and producers tell OutSFL they couldn’t be happier. “Florida fans have been great supporters of our show even through some of the political turmoil a few years ago and we're always excited to return every year in December.”

The holiday extravaganza will be hosted by the incomparable Nina West and feature performances by Sasha Colby, winner of “Drag Race” Season 15, Sapphira Cristal, runner-up Season 16, Roxxxy Andrews & Angeria Paris VanMichaels, both from the current “All Stars” 9 season on Paramount+, Plane Jane, Crystal Methyd, Plasma, Lady Camden and Brooke Lynn Hytes.
