Morgan Mayfaire has been an activist in the LGBTQ community for over 50 years. As founder and executive director of TransSOCIAL, he’s immersed in the community.
“My transness is a big part of who I am, but I'm a complicated queer man with many intersecting identities and interests. This is why I believe that we all need to stand together. We overlap and intersect more than most know, and in these times that we as a community are under attack, standing together is crucial for our survival.”
According to the TransSOCIAL website, the organization was created “to promote unity within the TLGBTQ+ community, and to increase trans visibility and understanding in our surrounding communities. We prioritize the ‘T’ in TLGBQ+ to address the unique challenges faced by transgender individuals in our community.”
Some of the services they offer include: Legal assistance with insurance denials; mental health referrals; gig worker wage compensation; LGBTQ cultural competency and sensitivity training to businesses, healthcare providers, schools, and universities; social gatherings and educational events to benefit our community; and links to local support group meetings, services, and resources through a centralized events calendar.
