The Bears of South Florida like to have fun. But they’re more than just a social group. Throughout the year they raise monies for local charities which they distribute in December at their holiday party. This they’ve won the Reader’s Choice award for Best Group for Bears.
“We have exceeded our fundraising goals and will be granting 10 organizations this year,” said William Haas, president of BOSFL. “Some of the organizations will have matching funding through AHF doubling the grant.”
The bears have been around for more than 20 years. Some of their grant recipients include the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida, The Pride Center at Equality Park and SunServe.
One member, Jamie, had this to say.
“The Bears of South Florida are an amazing group. Everyone is incredibly friendly, willing to pitch in and help, and genuinely caring about one another. The money raised throughout the year goes to wonderful, deserving charities, and it's heartwarming to see how we as a group can help the community in so many ways. And, the eye candy ain't bad either!”
Among their various activities throughout the year they host a daytime pool party at the Ed Lugo Resort. In March the group will set sail on the BOSFL cruise to the Western Caribbean – 7 nights with stops in Key West, Belize City, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman.
