Rainbow Sports League is the premier LGBTQ+ multi sport organization in South Florida.
Established in 2017 it was re-born in January 2024 with the enthusiasm and dedication of two new owners, Alex Plaza and Bill Doyle, who had previously worked as tireless volunteers. Under their leadership, the league has nearly doubled it's previous size and offerings. It started with just kickball and dodgeball a few years ago, it now offers volleyball, soccer, pickle ball, basketball and ultimate Frisbee, with more to come.
"We are honored to receive this award because it is voted by the community. It means that what we have been doing over the past year has made a difference and is being noticed," Doyle said.
At its core, the Rainbow Sports league is committed to providing a safe space organization where everyone is welcome to participate and encouraged to make new friends.
Doyle expands on the league by saying, "We operate year-round, typically kicking off in January, each season starts with the Free Open-Play Week where all of our organized sports are open to anyone wishing to check them out for a free day of fun, prior to signing up."
Players can sign up with an existing team, start their own, or simply as an individual that will get assigned to a team. The Rainbow Sports League is unique, a Fort Lauderdale locally owned and operated small business, proud to provide a safe social environment for the local LGBTQ community. Doyle says, "I am especially privileged of being voted again into this position. It means the quality work we strive to provide does not go unnoticed."
