Melissa St. John has been a fixture in South Florida’s drag scene, and a legend in Palm Beach County, for 40 years. Last year, she was named OutSFL’s Queen of Queens. There are no words that describe her impact and legacy in South Florida. She’s raised millions of dollars for local charities.
So it’s not surprise our readers voted her as Palm Beach’s Best Entertainer, Local Celebrity, Drag Performer, and Drag Activist.
“I have never thought of myself as a celebrity,” she said. “To all those who voted for me, please know that I greatly appreciate your support. It will now be my goal to use my new-found celebrity to continue to bring attention to a variety of issues impacting the LGBTQ community. We can all make a positive difference in the lives of those in need.”
She has wowed audiences and critics with her signature performances which include singing, dancing and acting. She has also been a prominent figure in advocating for LGBTQ rights in the community.
St. John is also known for her unique impersonations, including Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Gloria Gaynor and Tina Turner. She has performed at a wide variety of events, including private parties, cruises and Pride events.
“I have been a female illusionist for more than 40 years and have had the honor of sharing the stage with the greats of drag in South Florida and other parts of the country,” she said. “Drag is part acting, part costuming, part painting, part coiffing, part performing but even more so, all parts loving an art form that brings joy to so many. Drag allows for unfettered self- expression and the knowledge that drag is not a crime.”
