In times of crisis, he’s a familiar face with a calm-yet-authoritative voice. Craig Stevens brings South Florida news at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. on WSVN7. As valuable as his presence is behind the desk, it’s also valuable to the community.
“I've always found our community here extremely welcoming. I experienced it. I've seen it as we have grown with so many new arrivals. It really is special,” he said.
Winning the Your Choice Award for TV Personality is proof of the love from the community.
“Like a lot of people in my industry, I came to South Florida for a job. It was a terrific career move, but it quickly became so much more than that. It became home. I started not knowing a single person here on the East coast, and I've built a life, meaningful friendships, and relationships. It's home.”
Stevens is an out and proud member of South Florida’s LGBTQ community. He can be found hosting prides, riding floats, and emceeing events. He believes positive representation in the community is important.
“When you see or hear LGBTQ, it can almost seem like an abstract. But, of course, it refers to people; family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, who make up a community. I have always found when you can put a face on LGBTQ+, that’s a good place for understanding and mutual respect to begin. So where ever possible I’ve tried to do that, to put a ‘face’ on it.”
