The block has been rocked. Wilton Manors’ newest signature event took a bland, holiday weekend best known for fantastic sales on mattresses and turned it into a street party that brought the entire community together.
Rock the Block brought thousands of people to Wilton Drive to see local, national, and international acts vibe with fans. David Archuleta headlined the Saturday night street party that drew about 2,500 people to the closed off section of the street.
The “American Idol” star did a 75-minute set where he showed off his trademark vocals and heartfelt warmth. He talked with the crowd, sharing his message of positivity. Even on “Idol” in 2008 he had an “old soul” vibe about him. His musical choices and performance style are windows into that soul.
While he had fun on stage, the party really kicked in after. Archuleta was spotted up and down The Drive meeting fans, and grabbing a slice of late night pizza.
Local icon FayWhat?! hosted the main stage, and her energy kept the crowd engaged and made the artists feel at home.
The big weekend kicked off Thursday at Hunters, where British import Benedict Cork played an intimate set for about 150 VIPs and fans. Rock the Block was his official U.S. debut, and the theater-in-the-round setting helped each audience member feel like they made a connection with the artist.
Harmony Waves produces the event, and is committed to bringing similar events to Wilton Drive. Stefano May headlines their next show, March 7 at 7 p.m.
