The designs look amazing. Sweeping murals, a gracious entrance and an intimate pool deck could entice just about anyone. But the devil, as it often is, is in the details. Wilton Manors’ Development Review Committee (DRC) is charged with putting plans under a microscope and making sure every square foot meets city code. They have a list.
At a brief public meeting on Aug. 3, members of the public gave their feedback, most of which revolved around a perceived lack of parking for the 123 room, eight story hotel. The DRC also has parking concerns. Records suggest members are not amenable to reducing the number of spots, and want more details on parking. At the meeting, developers said valet would be in charge of parking.
There are also questions about EV parking spots and bicycle storage.
Other concerns on the 25-point list include landscaping, all the way down to the number of trees and types of plants. The development is taking advantage of increased height allowances by “going green.” DRC wants a closer look at how they will comply with green building codes.
Total height, signage, and how the building, set for the site of the old funeral home on Dixie Hwy., and how it will fit into the neighborhood are also addressed. Developers will take the notes and return with updated plans. This is a process that could go back and forth for months.
