On Nov. 13, a little-known Tennessee Williams hero, Gewinner Pearce, will touch down at Bona Italian Restaurant.
Like Blanche Dubois, the heroine of Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire”, Gewinner also depends on the kindness of strangers. Gewinner’s revelation of how he escaped from an American police state in a getaway spaceship has become “The Knightly Quest”, a live performance, adapted from Williams’ 1965 novel of the same name. South African leading man Marcel Meyer, who has played Stanley Kowalski and Hamlet around the world, plays Gewinner. A cast of Barbie and Ken dolls assist him. “The Knightly Quest” was a highlight of the 18th Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival in September.
The audience onboard for this flight of fancy is invited to fashion tin foil hats for themselves. Tin foil will be given out at the door. Bona Italian Restaurant is located at 2468 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors, FL. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. with an introduction from Provincetown Festival Curator, David Kaplan. Food will be available for purchase and a cash bar starting at 5 p.m.
Tickets for the show are available for $40 + $5 service charge at twptown.org.
The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival was founded in 2006 in Provincetown — the birthplace of modern American theater — where Williams worked on many of his major plays during the 1940s. The festival is the nation’s largest performing arts festival dedicated to celebrating and expanding an understanding of the full breadth of the work of America’s great playwright. Theater artists and patrons from around the United States and from dozens of countries have come together to produce and enjoy classic and innovative shows that celebrate Williams’ enduring influence in the 21st century, hosted by venues throughout the seaside village.
