“CBS News has ordered the moderators not to fact-check anything JD Vance says.”
That’s how Lawrence O’Donnell put it on his MSNBC show, and honestly, it says it all.
CBS has decided to deliver Vance’s words straight to your living room — no interruptions, no corrections, no truth filter.
I know I’ve praised O’Donnell before, but let’s give credit where it’s due — he’s one of the few voices calling it out. But seriously, how is it that we’re still debating whether fact-checking should happen in a nationally televised debate? Explain this to me like I’m five.
No fact-checking is a win for Republicans. It lets people like former President Donald Trump and Vance say whatever they want without being held accountable. Recent examples? Glad you asked:
- “Schools aren’t teaching math and reading anymore, they’re only teaching Transgender.” (Still not sure what that even means.)
- “The Biden administration hasn’t provided any federal aid to states hit by Hurricane Helene.” (Spoiler: Even Georgia’s Republican governor, Brian Kemp, debunked this.)
And let’s not forget the viral moment when Vance smugly reminded the moderator, “The rules were you guys weren’t going to fact-check.”
Of course, the people who scream “no fact-checking!” are the ones who plan on lying.
It’s really not that complicated: the people opposed to fact-checking are the ones with the most to hide.
