Continuing to flesh out his roster, President-elect Donald J. Trump appointed two gay men to high-ranking positions within the State Department.
Trump announced Ric Grenell, former acting director of national intelligence, will serve as Special Missions Envoy and Bill White has been tapped as the next Ambassador to Belgium.
Grenell, 58, is a fixture in the MAGA movement, an unwavering loyalist and outspoken critic of leftist policies. Trump said Grenell would be sent to adversarial hot spots, specifically mentioning Venezuela and North Korea.
Meanwhile, White is headed to Brussels, the Belgium capital, home base of NATO and the European Union — two organizations Trump has criticized for mooching off the U.S.
A high-powered New Yorker, who served as President of the Intrepid Museum, White was a major fundraiser for Trump and former President Barack Obama.
Trump highlighted White’s support for veterans in making the appointment.
“Bill has worked tirelessly to support Great American Patriots who have given everything for our Country by raising $1.5 Billion Dollars for our fallen heroes, catastrophically wounded and severely burned Service Members,” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.
White, 57, has dabbled in Georgia politics, most notably in an ill-fated attempt to siphon off the wealthy Buckhead neighborhood from the city of Atlanta. In 2011, he married his husband, Bryan Eure, in a star-studded soirée featuring a performance by Aretha Franklin.
