An advocate in Colorado received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a judge in Kentucky blocked Joe Biden's Title IX LGBTQ protections, and conservative figures blamed the wildfires in California on DEI.
Advocate Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom
Tim Gill, a Denver-based philanthropist and LGBTQ rights advocate, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden, according to KSUT News.
Gill has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in support of the LGBTQ community through the Gill Foundation.
The foundation has specifically supported nonprofits and causes that address challenges the LGBTQ faces, such as in healthcare and education.
Gill received the award because he “leveraged his success to secure key victories in the fight for marriage equality and anti-discrimination protections,” a White House press release read.

A Kentucky federal judge struck down the Biden administration’s expanded Title IX regulations nationwide.
According to The Lexington Herald Leader, the judge sided with the state’s attorney general, who was against the federal rule change last year that expanded Title IX protections for LGBTQ people.
Title IX bans sex-based harassment and discrimination against students and employees in federally funded education institutions, such as public K-12 schools, colleges and universities and athletics.
The Biden administration proposed extending the law’s protections to prohibit discrimination and harassment based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
Conservative Figures Blame Wildfires On DEI

Prominent right-wing figures like Matt Walsh and Elon Musk blamed the recent California wildfires on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
According to Rolling Stone, those in conservative circles ignored the effects of climate change and instead claimed Democratic leaders spent too much time focusing on DEI and not enough on infrastructure and firefighter resources.
Many climate-deniers also circulated a video that shows Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley stating she wants to diversify the department. Musk responded to it on X, writing, “DEI means people DIE.”
Walsh wrote on social media: “Los Angeles deliberately set out to exclude white men from becoming firefighters, and now they don’t have enough firefighters to prevent their city from burning to the ground. DEI is a cancer that destroys everything it touches.”
Fox News host Jesse Watters blamed Native Americans for the fires, stating Gov. Gavin Newsom has “been tearing down dams” because “Indians wanted some of the river back so they could catch salmon. Gavin didn’t just knock down one dam for the Indians, he knocked down all four.”
The fires are the result of hot, dry conditions caused by climate change. These conditions inevitably lead to natural disasters.
