Ten nonprofit organizations in South Florida that serve the HIV/AIDS community received crucial support from The Campbell Foundation. As many of these organizations face budget challenges toward the end of the year, this funding helps ease the strain and brings a little extra light to the season for The Campbell Foundation's partner groups.
The organizations are AH Monroe, Broward House, Care Resource Center, Compass, Comprehensive Care Center, Found Care, Latinos Salud, Poverello, Pride Center of Fort Lauderdale, and SunServe.
Despite advances in early detection, HIV/AIDS cases in South Florida are among the highest in the United States. While being based in Fort Lauderdale, the Campbell Foundation funds HIV/AIDS research worldwide. It awarded $3,000 in grants to the nonprofits.
“This is our 29th year of providing what we like to refer to as ‘Holiday Hugs’ to those nonprofits that serve those living with HIV/AIDS and their families,” said the Foundation’s Executive Director Ken Rapkin, in a news release. “From food and shelter to HIV and STI testing to a variety of other resources, these nonprofits serve a niche that often doesn’t get the funding they need.”
The grantees, located from Key West to West Palm Beach, can use the money however they see fit.
“This partnership strengthens our commitment to fostering a healthier, more inclusive community by offering life-saving care, advocacy, and services that empower individuals to live with dignity and hope,” said Compass Executive Director Julie Seaver.
In 2025, The Campbell Foundation will celebrate 30 years of helping to eliminate HIV/AIDS. To date, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in research grants and $1.5 million in direct support grants. More info can be found on its website campbellfoundation.net.
