Last week, OutSFL announced the launch of OutFAU, a new student-led publication at Florida Atlantic University. This week, we announce that Mary Rasura has been named as its first executive editor.
“A couple of months ago OutFAU was just a concept, an idea,” said OutSFL Publisher Jason Parsley. “But Mary has worked hard over the last month to take that idea and make it a reality. Like OutSFL has become a voice of the LGBTQ community in South Florida, we hope OutFAU will serve a similar role for the queer community and its allies at FAU.”
The current plan is to publish a monthly print edition, while publishing regularly online in between.
Rasura, 25, is entering her last year at FAU. She’s a journalism major and has worked for the University Press, the long-time student newspaper at FAU, for the last year. She’s also written for South Florida Gay News, OutSFL and The Islander.
“I am very excited to start this new project. I think this is really needed in the current political climate of Florida,” Rasura said. “I have thought of leaving Florida and moving away because I felt so disheartened by what’s going on, but I feel like I should stay and we should fight the current situation. I hope that you will join me on this endeavor and read or write or contribute.”
Once OutFAU officially launches, you can find it online at outfau.com, follow it on Instagram @outfau, and subscribe to its newsletter (outsfl.com/outfau/subscribe). You can email Mary at
