Wilton Manors is an island city, yet somehow has lacked a top-tier store to maximize all the aqua opportunities our area offers. That problem is in the past.

SCUBA Star is open at 2031B Wilton Drive, offering everything for novices to experienced divers.

“We will take you from zero to SCUBA star,” owner Houssein Aleidan said. “We’re basically a one-stop shop where you can get rental gear, classes, gear serviced. We work with people on a private basis or in group classes.”

A quorum of city commissioners turned out for the grand opening and ribbon cutting on May 10 as friends, diving enthusiasts and beginners turned out to see what the shop has to offer.

Top end equipment from Padi and other well-known companies line the walls. Everything from colorful flippers to eye protection to cool stickers to declare your diving devotion to the world.

“We’re here to make this as easy as possible for all customers,” Aleidan said.

He also says it’s no accident SCUBA Star is making a home in the heart of Wilton.

“Wilton Manors is the hub where a lot of magic happens. Its sense of openness and ability to connect and make everyone stronger. I love what Wilton Manors stands for.”

Humanity knows more about the surface of the moon than it knows about the ocean floor. Aleidan knows firsthand how many surprises lie just below the surface, waiting to be discovered.

“The nature of the reefs and surprises of how the animals react to you. They come up to you and reciprocate the energy. It’s very welcoming underwater, as it is here in Wilton Manors.”

SCUBA Star is a unique addition to The Drive, and Aleidan says the goal is to stand out while blending in.

“We’re trying to build community, get involved with all sorts of activities to make this a fun space in addition to the many fun spaces around here and add an extra layer of fun to the community.”
