As you step out of your car, there’s simultaneously a welcoming buzz in the air, offset by the calming waters of the intercoastal. Going to a new doctor (or any doctor) can be stressful. But Mayfaire Medical works to make people feel welcome from the moment they arrive.
“Nothing is rushed,” co-founder Morgan Mayfaire said. “Patient experience is important to us.”
Mayfaire Medical is a new healthcare option in Fort Lauderdale on Oakland Park Blvd. and Bayview. While the clinic is new, the names behind it are very familiar. Ashley and Morgan Mayfaire are activists with decades of experience and history with the South Florida LGBTQ community.
“It is medical care for all,” Ashley said. “We will take care of people looking for a culturally competent medical home.”
Mayfaire Medical’s grand opening was a few weeks ago and community support is strong. Dozens of elected, business, and community leaders showed up to celebrate.
The party was catered by legendary restaurateur Dom Caruso with delicious desserts from Cake Daddy’s.
“It was nice to see so many folks we’ve worked with for years,” Morgan said.
The Patient Experience
New patients generally fill out an online form, then are contacted by an experienced representative from Mayfaire Medical. They’ll help you figure out insurance issues, including help for low income folks, and get a first appointment scheduled.
Then you come in and meet your doctor. Not a quick hello, a peek inside the ears and send you on your way. Doctors at Mayfaire Medical spend real time getting to know the patient individually. That includes a patient’s history, ordering labs, discussing HIV prevention or treatment.
While those are the basics, Mayfaire Medical also offers a variety of other specialty care.
“We want to help our community. I mean all of us,” Ashley said. “We see the community to be an investment in inclusive spaces in this new environment.”
Mayfaire Medical has an onsite pharmacy run by their partner, XRX, which also helps with at-home pharmaceutical delivery.
Most importantly, Mayfaire Medical is a place where all patients are seen for whom they truly are, and both Ashley and Morgan say that is the most important part.
