Zaylin Yates is the Founding Managing Director of Brévo Theatre (2019), a nonprofit committed to amplifying the voices of young Black artists and providing a platform to the unheard by highlighting up-and-coming playwrights, actors, dancers, and directors, by offering a diverse entertainment experience through color-blind casting.
Yates also serves on the Heritage Committee at the Arsht Center, a program dedicated to celebrating Black artists in the South Florida community.
Prior Related Employment and/or Education: Currently Manager of Community Engagement at the Adrienne Arsht Center. M.B.A., B.S. in Business Administration, and B.A. in Theatre Performance from A&M University. Over the past 10 years, Yates has both produced, directed, and performed, in various productions throughout the Southeast including “Detroit ’67,” “The Colored Museum,” and “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

What would you say is the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing performers come through a successful process and feeling like they grew or took something away or added something to their tool kit.
What would you say is the most challenging part of your job?
As of now, the most challenging part is being able to find consistent space to produce our programming. However, we’ve adopted partnerships that have been instrumental in providing us space.
What would be a “dream come true” for your organization?
Identifying consistent donors for our seasons.
Where would you like to see your organization in 10 years?
In the next 10 years, I would like to see our theater company in our own space as a fully realized dinner theater.
